Ellen Napper
Clinical PsychologistBArts(Hons) – MPsych(Clin) - MAPS
Ellen is a Clinical Psychologist who completed her Masters of Psychology (Clinical) at the University of Melbourne. She specialises in providing evidence-based psychological support to individuals aged 16 and older, helping them navigate a wide range of mental health and life challenges.
Ellen’s approach is client-centered, focusing on building a warm, trusting, and collaborative relationship as the foundation for meaningful change. She helps clients develop deeper self-awareness, providing practical tools to explore and integrate challenging experiences with curiosity and compassion. Her aim is to empower individuals to live in harmony with their emotions and life experiences, rather than struggle against them.
By helping clients uncover what truly matters to them, Ellen supports the creation of a solid foundation for psychological well-being and a more fulfilling life.

TherapeuticApproach
Ellen has a strong interest in working with clients facing anxiety, stress, depression, relationship and interpersonal difficulties, adjustment challenges, trauma, and emotion regulation. She is also passionate about fostering personal growth in areas such as self-esteem, self-compassion, and resilience.
Ellen takes a neurodiversity-affirming approach to support individuals with autism and ADHD, ensuring their unique experiences are understood and respected.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical and evidence-based approach to mental health that helps people understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By identifying unhelpful thought patterns and replacing them with more balanced and constructive ways of thinking, CBT empowers individuals to manage challenges like anxiety, depression, and stress more effectively.
Through collaborative conversations and structured techniques, CBT provides practical tools to help individuals reframe negative thinking, build healthier habits, and develop coping strategies. It’s a solution-focused therapy that is tailored to each person’s unique goals, offering skills that can create lasting positive change.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a modern, evidence-based approach to mental health that helps people build a meaningful life while managing life’s challenges. Rather than trying to eliminate difficult thoughts and feelings, ACT encourages individuals to accept them as a natural part of life and focus on what truly matters to them.
Through mindfulness techniques and values-based guidance, ACT helps individuals develop greater psychological flexibility—learning to respond to challenges in a way that aligns with their goals and values. It’s a compassionate and practical approach designed to help people live a fulfilling, purpose-driven life, even in the presence of difficult emotions or experiences.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy designed to help people manage intense emotions, build healthier relationships, and cope with difficult situations. It was originally created to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD) but is now used for other conditions like anxiety, depression, and self-harm.
DBT focuses on teaching skills in four main areas:
Mindfulness: Being present and aware in the moment. Distress Tolerance: Handling tough emotions or crises without making things worse. Emotion Regulation: Understanding and managing strong feelings effectively. Interpersonal Effectiveness: Communicating clearly and maintaining healthy relationships.
Treatment usually includes one-on-one therapy, group skills training, and sometimes coaching for real-life situations. DBT combines acceptance and change, helping individuals improve their quality of life while supporting them as they are.
Schema Therapy is an integrative and evidence-based approach that helps individuals identify and change deeply ingrained patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving—known as "schemas"—that may stem from early life experiences. These schemas can influence how we see ourselves, others, and the world, often leading to emotional struggles or unhealthy coping strategies.
Schema Therapy combines elements of cognitive, behavioral, and emotion-focused therapies to help individuals understand the roots of their patterns, develop healthier ways of thinking and behaving, and meet their core emotional needs. It’s a compassionate and collaborative therapy aimed at fostering self-awareness, emotional growth, and long-lasting positive change.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. It works by helping the brain reprocess difficult memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing individuals to move forward without feeling "stuck."
During EMDR sessions, a therapist guides the client through recalling specific memories while using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements. This process helps the brain reorganize how these memories are stored, making them less intrusive and more manageable. EMDR is a supportive and structured therapy that empowers individuals to heal, build resilience, and regain control over their lives.
Mindfulness-based practices are techniques that help you stay present and fully engaged in the moment. They involve focusing on thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment. These practices can include meditation, deep breathing, mindful movement, and daily activities done with full awareness. They are often used to reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance emotional well-being.
